In 2021, Brookline Rotary coordinated the first town-wide celebration of dogs.  It was just at the time we were all craving community and fun after months of isolation and uncertainty.  The day, despite being postponed a week due to weather, was nothing but laughs and smiles and a perfect antidote to some tough times.  We are again reprising this event on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at Downes Field.

With the support of the Green Dog Program of Brookline, Brookline Rotary will present a celebration of “man’s best friend” at Downes Field, 24 Highland Rd, Brookline.  From 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, there will be vendors and activities honoring some of the special pets who are our best friends and who keep us going.  Participants in the Green Dog Program receive a discount on admission.

Back by popular demand will be the Halloween Costume competitions at 1:00 PM with categories including scariest, funniest, best homemade costume and owner/pet team costume; demonstrations by the Brookline Police K9 Unit at 2:15 and frisbee demonstrations at noon with Flying High Dogs.  Food trucks and vendors fill out the program.  This year we will have a shelter that will bring dogs for possible adoption by those that qualify and complete the application process.

Dog lovers and dog owners are welcome!  All proceeds will go to Fidelco, a non-profit that trains dogs and donates them to the blind, and to other local Brookline Rotary charities.  Please look at the event sign-up and join us.  We need a lot of volunteers to pull this off successfully so family members and friends welcome.
