Please join us in congratulating Susan Peghiny as the Nominating Committee's selection for the 2021-2022 District Governor for Rotary District 7910! Susan is a past President of the Rotary Club of Newton and is currently serving as the District Secretary and an Assistant Governor. The Nominating Committee interviewed candidates and selected Susan as the best qualified of all the candidates in the pool this year to lead our district!.  If confirmed, Susan will assume the role of District Governor Nominee Designate (DGND).

Susan lives in Newton with her husband Ron Faccenda (who is PE of the Newton Club) and her father, Jim.  All three of them work in the family clock and watch repair business located in their home.  Sue has had a wide variety of jobs and experiences, but it wasn’t until she joined Rotary that she finally figured out what she wanted to be when she grew up: a Rotarian.

She came to Rotary after she and Ron moved back into her family home after raising their son Leo in Southborough.  When Leo went to Colorado for college (never to return) and Sue’s mother passed away, consolidating houses with Jim was an easy decision. Plus, the commute was much better.  However, they both found that making connections in a community after 40+ years way can be a challenge.  Luckily, Sue ran into a member of the Rotary Club of Newton at the local dog park and the rest is history.

Her first experience in Rotary was working on the Newton Club’s big fundraiser, Newton Has Talent.  With a degree in music and experience running local community musical ensembles, this was a great fit for Sue.  She has subsequently served as the club’s Speaker Chair, RYLA & Interact Chair, Membership Chair, Public Image Chair and finally President in the 2018-2019 year, when Newton won the District 7910 Gold Best Club, Gold Community Service and Public Image awards, as well as a Rotary International Presidential Citation.

At the district level, Sue is currently an Assistant Governor, the District Secretary and the Visioning Coordinator (her husband Ron is the Visioning Chair).  She is an RLI Graduate, a PETS Facilitator, and has volunteered at RYLA, and was on the district Membership Committee.  She and Ron have twice hosted GSE and Bandy-Hefler visitors, and participated in the 2015 Italian Fellowship Exchange trip and the 2016 Bandy-Hefler trip to England.

Sue is an avid reader, plays mah jongg, and is a percussionist with the Interboro Community Band. She and Ron love to travel (especially to Colorado to visit Leo), hear live music and swing dance. They have two small, yappy but sweet dogs who they try to walk daily (which is when they talk about all things Rotary).

In other news, the Nominating Committee made its selection of PDG James Fusco from the Rotary Club of the Montachusett Area as our District Treasurer; Cheryl Rosen from the Rotary Club of Hudson as our District Archivist; and Cliff Rober from the Rotary Club of Bedford as our District Sargent at Arms.  The selection of Trustees will be announced after December 10, when the nominating committee next meets.
