All of us are experiencing significantly higher costs for food, a necessity of life. For the 400+ low-income families and seniors living in our community, food insecurity has become a much bigger issue. The students at Mass Bay Community College and our homeless veterans are also grappling with food insecurity. The proceeds raised from Taste of Wellesley 2024 will provide meals for our low-income residents and direct support to students of Mass Bay and organizations that support homeless veterans. Rotary volunteers will be distributing the meals prepared by our local restaurants and serving meals for the veterans. At the same time, we will provide a wonderful evening of food, beverages, live entertainment and opportunities to gather in community.
It is through the generosity of our Wellesley restaurants, cafes and caterers that we are able to bring this event to Wellesley. Please thank our local restaurants for their participation in this worthwhile cause.
Last year our goal for the Taste of Wellesley fundraiser was to alleviate Food Insecurity needs in our community. Thanks to our sponsors and the over 300 attendees our Club donated funds to the following programs including:
Donations to the Village Table at Wellesley Village Church. With this funding the Village Table prepared about 3000 high quality meals and distributed them to people in need at local charities and residential homes. Yes, we help prepare the meals!
We donated and delivered over 400 meals to the New England Center for Homeless Veterans.
We provide assistance for the SNAP program at MassBay Community College, totaling $15,000.
The Rotary Club of Wellesley is one of Wellesley’s oldest community service groups and conducts local programs to benefit the Town of Wellesley. The mission of the Rotary Club of Wellesley is to serve others with a focus on strengthening our community in the areas of health, education and sustainable living. Consider becoming a Rotarian in 2024!
