The Committee on the Environment of the Rotary Club of Westborough collected 131 pounds of film plastic during Its fifth Trex Plastics Challenge collection, on Saturday, January 2 at Kohls' retail store in Northborough.

Roughly 41 pounds was collected at the remote satellite locations at the CFCU Bank and the Burrough YMCA. Joe Desiata, from Mark's Moving Co., had helped the club to move the plastics from the remote locations to Kohls' earlier in the week - we really appreciate it, Joe! The following club members actively supported this event: Dave Kaiser; Jim Comes; Heather Abraham; Elliott Rittenberg; and, Sharad Mehta.

We are also very appreciative of community members since a majority of the plastics collected were brought directly on-site at Kohls' in order to minimize the handling by our volunteers. Our total collection is now 340 pounds toward the goal of 500 pounds by this May 5.  If we are successful, Trex Co.which manufactures a wide array of composite plastic products, will gift us a park bench as a reward.

A big thanks to Shellby Marshall for interviewing Heather Abraham and Sharad Mehta for the "Frank & Mary Show" at Westborough TV. To watch the 28-minute interview, click here.

Thank you everyone for spreading the word and making the plastics-collection events successful. We need more volunteers to participate in future events at Kohls' and help out with the large amounts of plastics being collected. This will help us sustain the program going forward.
