Many of our Club’s subcommittees, comprised of Rotarians worldwide, are closing inn ideas for possible projects. Here are the key elements of developing a great plan for a great project.
Initially, a one-page summary should be written and submitted for approval to the Rotary Club of World Disability Advocacy. Once that summary is approved, a more detailed plan should be written, to include the following:

  • Goal: To start with, a project should have a clear, overall goal. Having an idea is a good starting point , but an idea also needs substance.
  • Management: A project must designate who will be the project manager. Even better, it would be best to list a team of people who will work on the project.
  • Tasks: The plan should include information on who is going to do each task, including how and when the tasks will be completed.
  • Collaboration: A good project should include a list of which organizations will be involved in the project. Collaboration could include resources such as funding, expertise, connections, people, facilities, and more.
  • Budget: A detailed budget needs to be developed to make certain that enough funds will be available, to complete the entire project. This includes information on who will manage the budget and where the funds will be deposited.
  • Funds: How the project is going to be funded is important. A list of all funding sources needs to be included in the plan.
  • Measurable results: In order to determine the success of the project, a timeline of measurable results needs to be developed.
  • Follow-up: There should be a system put in place that will be able to evaluate the progress and make adjustments when accomplishments are not happening on schedule.
Putting such a plan together takes time. but it will also increase the chances that the program will be successful.
