In partnership with local Ugandan Rotary clubs and Portland Maine-based Partners for World Health (PWH), the Rotary Club of South Portland-Cape Elizabeth is helping to ship $1.3 million worth of donated medical equipment and supplies to the new hospital. The total project cost is $180,000, which includes training local medical staff on the equipment. Once furnished, the government will operate the hospital, ensuring long-term sustainability. Most importantly, this initiative is estimated to save 60 children each year, reducing regional neonatal mortality by 20%.
This is the 1st time the Rotary Club of South Portland-Cape Elizabeth is hosting a grant of this scale, and two Ugandan Rotary clubs will oversee operations on the ground. They have already raised $135,000 through pledges from 15 clubs, 3 districts, 35 individuals, and anticipated Rotary Foundation (TRF) funding. They are now seeking to raise the remaining $45,000.
